The Marmalade Foundation has sole responsibility for funding and operating Lou’s Place and The Plunkett Street Community Project. We receive no ongoing government support with over 95% of funds sourced privately.
The Marmalade Foundation formed 16 years ago: a group of four women who wanted to give back to the community; to focus their efforts on women and children who needed help and support. Now the group has grown to 20. Not only do Marmalade members donate funds, they contribute their time, passion, networks and expertise to directly impact on policy, strategy, operations and systems.
A key consideration is the efficient use of our donors' funds. and we are very proud of our track record in expense management.
Only 2% of our operating budget is directed against fundraising expenses. Accounting, auditing, legal, marketing and administrative services are conducted either by members of The Marmalade Foundation or by pro bono volunteers. In terms of client service delivery, we use volunteers extensively. Our four full-time welfare workers are supported by a team of 50 volunteers. Our operating budget is leveraged by over 40% through donated goods and services.
